The energy of growth and its impact on the new year
Welcome 2025, welcome to us beautiful humans entering a new year, a new energy, a new era.
As much as every day is a new start, some dates carry more weight than others. Mainly because we share the same belief system on certain days and so the “group mind” becomes a strong carrier for that energy.
The first day of the new year is such a day. 1st of January is the mass-representation of a new start and new year, so let’s go with it for a moment.
Usually, the newness, the resolutions and dreams quickly fade back into the ordinariness of everything else, as life grabs us with its demands and habits. But before that happens, we also have the opportunity to really dive into this energy and BE with it.
Over the last few years, I have made it a conscious ritual, to feel into the new year with all its unknown opportunities and ask one question. What is the ENERGY (usually represented in one word) I need to prepare for? Instead of setting up goals and dreams, I rather wanted to know what I am up “against”.
This year I got “GROWTH”.
Oh gosh, I thought…and off went my mind on its little mission to take over… Growth is a word which makes me anxious, because growing is not comfortable. It comes with being stretched, it comes with stuff being broken off or taken away, it often requires courage and good decisions when the road splits. When I think of our economy these days, this over-growth generates so much stress in the economic system within the workforce, I think stock exchange crashes, an uneven distribution of resources, war, price increases and environmental damage.
So, with all this inside my head, I usually try to ground and ask nature to reflect the reality of what I need to see in order to prepare for this year’s energy.
And on January 3rd, I was shown the symbol.
I arrived at the farm to visit the horses when I saw this huge majestic gumtree on the ground. It had “just” fallen over. Such a big tree, its bigness gave me the illusion that it was so stable.
But the message came instantly: Whatever is not rooted firmly this year, will break away.
Here you have it. You cannot grow if there are no strong roots.
As our vision and outer reality grow, so our inner strengths, our inner roots have to grow. Otherwise, it is all a puff, like our economy – an unsustainable model, bound to crash.
The tree looked so solid, but it is so often not what it looks like – we all know that.
Talking to the farm guardian I learned that this tree had been stressed for a while. It had twisted its stem and gum had been pouring out, apparently a sign of un-health. When I tuned into the tree myself, I felt this huge acceptance because this was not sudden and its death had been prepared for a long time (as it does, something I learned last year). It was no shock to the tree, just to the unconscious onlooker such as myself. There are always signs, I learned.
So my questions for us today are:
Where do you want to grow?
Which area(s) may even require you to grow up?
What signs invite you to let go of certain aspects of your life? Be it a belief pattern or a habit?
Which roots are calmly rotting away as you are reading this?
Where can you prepare for a conscious break-away?
Which roots and foundations need to be nourished so you can grow into your full potential?
Which branches of your life are you holding onto, although they are brittle and no longer supported by the whole?
Which conversation needs to be had, which choice needs to be made?
My invitation is to find a big tree & a notebook and sit silently with all these questions. As you contemplate them calmly in your heart, you will sooner or later get a sense of your inner wisdom. You always know, your body always knows, just allow some time and space to do that.
Growing with our Animals
As animal guardians, we have one huge secret potion: the wisdom of our animals and, with that, a strong connection to a nature-being.
I have seen over and over again how our animals assist us with our growth. And through our growth, they grow. Yes, they also have their own topics, but one major part of aligning with a human in this life, is to grow the human.
How do we grow? Through the challenges our animal-human relationship might present, the “hard” lessons, the difficulties. We grow through being present to another being’s needs, we grow through experiencing this unconditional love day in and day out. And we grow because someone is always looking at our potential, never seeming to doubt. We grow when they are dying in ways we cannot even imagine. We are constantly learning about life when we are sharing it with our animals.

And lastly, if you have read any astrological forecast for 2025, you will know that we are in for a ride. Many planets change into new signs; on the numerology side 2025 is also 9-year, a culmination of a period. For humanity, this means change – big change. We are also seeing an alignment of note or planet parade on the 25th of January in the night sky, so as much as is coming our way, there is so much beauty in the bigger picture. So look up once in a while and remember that we are part of a much more grand vision and whatever is not rooted firmly, will break away. Naturally!
And why: because we are evolving! Whether we want it or not.
