The most precious gift you can offer your animal

Looking at our animals’ lives in the bigger picture: why are they here and where do they go after death? A contemplation on how we can offer our animals the best possible life.

So where do our animals go after death? Where do we go?

Honestly, I don’t know for sure, because how can I?

But what I have experienced are stories and perceptions shared by the animals as my role as animal communicator plus my keen interest in transcendental books and stories out there. So please see this article as a contemplation of my experiences and whatever feels true to me right now. I am well aware that our perception constantly changes, and it will align different layers of truth. Will my contemplation stand the test of time? I also don’t know that, and for now that is ok.

My invitation is always, feel for yourself, in your heart, if there is a truth here for you. Not because I said so, but because you remember deep down in your being.

So, let’s start with this. LIFE has an agenda; it has a force behind it. The force is called evolution. Life wants to express itself, it wants to evolve. So that also means that a soul’s path is to evolve – and I mean at all costs. We are placed in challenging scenarios over and over again so that we grow! All life is suffering, the Buddha said. But we could also say, we are here to learn and to evolve. And one day, after many many lifetimes and with grace from the Spirit of course, we might have the opportunity to feel our full potential – I am talking enlightenment here, I am talking states of awareness which have nothing to do with what science can prove to this day. But that might be eons of lifetimes and round and rounds of living well. So here we are in another round. What do you make of it? How strongly do you embrace your lessons? Opportunities for growth or reasons to moan? (Ok, a bit harsh but you get my point, right?)

I also believe that each individual has a valuable role to play. Meaning that if I do well in my life and my soul evolves in this lifetime, and then I go back “home” – I will make an impact on the entire consciousness of humanity; or in other words: maybe if an individual does well, it elevates the group until such time that there is a tipping point towards the evolved. And then I could imagine life really being “fun” and awesome. So if we do well, we won’t only have a much more calm and trusting life (the byproduct of a spiritual life), but we are also taking one for the team, so to speak. Some of us have that ambition, some of us do not. But the point is, it matters to you and everyone else if you show up to live a good life.

What about our Animals?

I once read that our animals live in various soul clusters. So when they go back home to the Sun, their souls seem to gather by type. So the doggie souls will find each other, the horse souls will re-group, the cats will gather, etc. And once an animal soul returns and has evolved in this last life, it will bring this growth and evolution to the whole.  It will elevate and evolve the collective (very much like us humans, maybe). And that could possibly mean that certain animal types then evolve into other species. They can go “up the ladder”, spiritually of course.

Now this I find extremely intriguing because it really redefined the question for me: “What is a good animal guardian?”

So for me, a “good animal guardian” is the one who provides his / her animal(s) with a kind & spiritual life.

As with us, life is more than having your needs met; life is more than being comfortable on the essential levels (food, shelter, safety, family bonds).

Life is supposed to be soul touching, and valuable; teaching moment after teaching moment. In a lifetime, we have a chance to learn, to remember aspects of our eternal self; we have a chance to evolve the whole.

So in addition to food, love, kindness, fun activities, and a fluffy bed at night, allow your animal to evolve spiritually. Because it might matter so much more than you think.

A few inspirations

on how you can provide your animal with an even more valuable and meaningful life. I’d like to share the ones I have experienced with my animals and ways of connection I facilitate for my clients, but of course the list can include a lot more.

Allow yourself to ditch the labels of human and animal. Allow yourself more and more to see them as equal beings with an equal amount of wisdom. They don’t have a self-reflecting mind and intellect, yes. But they do have heart, integrity, and naturalness. So when you see your animal “not just as an animal” but as an inspiration of nature, what can you observe? For me it comes down to: rest more, release tension often, eat with great joy, find excitement in daily routines and retreat when you are sick. It all sounds pretty straightforward but honestly, in a human life, some of the stuff is not “as simple”.

Be curious about your animal’s perspective. Animals are sentient beings with a soul, deep wisdom, and a unique perspective on life – their perspective. So why not ask your animal’s perspective on everyday life as well as difficult situations? The way to go about it is to book an animal communication session. You’ll thoroughly enjoy the wisdom, I promise you. Because there is so much more than meets the eye.

Include your animals in “spiritual activities” such as mediation, chanting, singing bowl playing, mindfulness, sitting in the garden, being present. You can always invite them physically or allow the space for them to join (my dogs LOVE sitting next to me during meditation or when I am facilitating a client session).

Stay present when you spend time with your animals (e.g. taking your dog or horse for a walk). Investigate nature, take it all in, smell the air, listen to the sounds, enjoy the view, the sand under your feet, and the trees around you – feel the connection to your animal. The walk is not only a means of entertainment or exercise, but about spending time together, exploring nature together. BEING. By the way, animals HATE when you are on your phone while taking them out!

Learn their language, something we call “animal communication”, but in the end, it is just a deeper listening to what you already perceive. We animal guardians are very close to our furry and feathered friends, Learning their language is an ability to learn more about your intuition, how life speaks through you, and of course, how to communicate more clearly with your beloved animal. It is great fun and certainly my most cherished superpower I have in this life! (plus it really does it help me to evolve.) The next animal communication course is running on 26 July 2025 – maybe I see you there?

The big one: Don’t fear their death.Research, be curious, and learn to accept it as part of your’s and your animal’s life. Accepting death will change the course of your life and, most importantly, make this final chapter valuable and meaningful instead of feared and rather to be avoided. Animals teach us about death because we might encounter a few with them. And each one will be different, and there is always so much to learn. It is a time of great magic and great sorrow. Bittersweet endings, an animal recently labelled the end. If you want your soul truly touched and if you want to learn at an accelerated speed, don’t fear your animal’s death, but engage with it. This is my heartfelt invitation to anyone wishing to be present for when the time comes. Find out more about the upcoming Animal Death, Ageing & Dying workshop here.

Now my favourite: Reflect on your challenges with your animal and acknowledge that you have a soul contract with them. Whatever they throw at you, and I am talking specifically about challenges, such as a behaviour you struggle with, worries and fears which arise, money tightness, etc. – all of it is part of your contract; all of it is in your life because it will help YOU grow! Now if you investigate your internal battle with these challenges (e.g. why am I anxious when I have to walk my dog) you will find great puzzle pieces to your own growth, patterns, and your evolution. Your animal is therefore no longer the “difficult” child but a teacher for your evolution. If you wish to explore this connection, find out more during an Animal Wisdom Session. And yes, of course we wish for them to overcome their challenges so they can feel save in this world but very often the change starts with us.

Animals, too, have a soul plan, find out about it. Why are they on this Earth and what is it that needs to be seen in order for them to evolve? My wonderful friend Olivia and I have hosted a workshop together on this topic. Another one might run again later this year; email me if you wish to be informed. It is a very special event.

Allow your animal to have a suitable role in your family. Many guardians call their animals their babies! Now in some (few) cases this is a suitable description and family role, but very often the animals prefer the label “partner” or “furry partner”. But essentially they are always teachers, as much as any human or child can be a teacher in your life. They are here to teach us our best qualities, such as unconditional love, kindness, and our immense ability to care for another being. But they also have their own struggles. And allowing us to see them in their strengths, especially during sickness or death, and not as our “poor baby” will really elevate their sense of being.

So this is it.

I am wishing you and your animal a meaningful life, magical moments of connection and of course as much silly play, cuddle time, specially prepared meals and love letters as your hearts desire. Hopefully this is inspirational to your relationship.

With Love from animal lover to animal lover, Anne
